Meet Our Girl Liticia!

Growing up, Liticia faced the challenges of losing both of her parents at a young age. Liticia became pregnant at a young age and was forced to drop out of school.

She promised her mother before she died that she would complete her education, so Liticia is determined to keep her promise. She also wants to set a good example for her younger siblings and her son.

Benè Graduation!

Posted on September 03, 2016 by Michelle Blue | 0 comments

This year our first group of girls graduated from Secondary school!

These young ladies have been with us from the beginning of our business 3 years ago, have worked very hard to get to this point, and we couldn't be more proud!

Firstly we have to send a huge THANK YOU to our family and friends because it was only through their help that we were able to visit Ghana to see it happen.

We took the scenic route to get there -a 17 hours bus/car journey from Accra to Bolgatanga to BOGISS, the Bolgatanga Girls Secondary High School. Upon arrival were greeted warmly by the school and our girls through song and dance and taken on a tour of the school grounds showing us their cafeteria, libraries and dorms where they live.

On the day of the ceremony, we went in early to decorate with "Congrats Grad" balloons and signage we brought along with us .The room was then filled with bright eyed SISTAH Works scholars ready take on the world along with the teachers and administrators who guided them through. As the adults gave their speeches they all had a common message - to be appreciative of all the opportunities granted and to always reach back and help someone else. A few of the girls also took a moment to speak and it was clear that the message got through to them. Every one of them talked about how important it is to them that they give back to their families and communities because it is their responsibility.

Needless to say it was a great ceremony! These girls are going off to pursue their dreams of being the next generation of teachers, midwives, doctors and so much more!

#WhatIReallyReallyWant: Gender Equality

Posted on July 21, 2016 by Jessa Sargent | 0 comments

If you have not seen the feminist version and modern day girl power video of “Wannabe” by Spice Girls, then you are seriously missing out.  Project Everyone released this powerful video for United Nation’s Global Goals Campaign to fight poverty, climate change, and inequality and injustice.

The video showcases women of different ethnicities, religion, and ages dancing and singing to “Wannabe”; while celebrating the differences between women in the world. The lyrics and the same infectious and fun energy are the same to the original Spice Girls video, but there are messages places throughout the video encouraging gender equality. Victoria Beckham told The Guardian “How fabulous it is that after 20 years the legacy of the Spice Girls’ girl power is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation?

We believe that any woman should be able to have the same opportunities as any other human being in the world, and what better way to voice than with one of the most iconic Spice Girls song? This is what Bene believes in and why we have decided to go into this business. Women helping women is a beautiful thing and we are happy to do whatever it takes to make sure gender equality is seen in every part of the world.

How can you become a part of this campaign? Global Goals and Project Everyone are asking women to share their hopes and dreams for gender equality by using the hashtag #WhatIReallyReallyWant.
